The Police are investigating a 36-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged a false report.
On 2 November 2017 at about 11.25am, the woman lodged a report informing that a man had allegedly punched and robbed her of her handphone and 3 gold chains.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive enquiries and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that she had provided false information to the Police as she was angry with her boyfriend following a dispute.
Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources can be put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigate false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
