The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

Between 2 and 3 November 2017, two separate cases of loanshark harassment were reported at Chai Chee and Eastwood Road. In the first case, a residential unit at Chai Chee was locked with a bicycle lock and splashed with paint. Loanshark-related graffiti were also scribbled on the walls. In the second case, the vehicles parked  along Eastwood Road were splashed with paint and debtor notes were pasted on the vehicles.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Woodlands Drive 16 on 3 November 2017. A handphone and printer were seized as case exhibits. 

 

The man will be charged in Court on 4 November 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
