The Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 7 November 2017, the Police received a report from a victim that he had received handphone alerts about online purchase of game credits. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had signed up for a mobile line, coupled with a handphone, and handed the handphone to the suspect in exchange for S$100/-. The suspect assured the victim that the mobile line would be terminated immediately within a month with no charges to be incurred by the victim. After receiving the handphone, the suspect became uncontactable. The suspect also did not terminate the line, thus saddling the victim with phone bills.

Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect. He was arrested along Hougang Street 91 on 8 November 2017. The suspect is also believed to be involved in other similar cases.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 10 November 2017 with the offence of Cheating which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
