The Police have arrested a 46-year-old woman for setting fire to the main gate and door of a residential HDB unit.
On 15 November 2017 at about 6.36 am, the Police were alerted to a case of fire at a unit at Block 240 Tampines Street 21. Through extensive ground enquiries and the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on the same day within 10 hours of the report lodged. Preliminary investigations revealed one of the residents in the affected unit used to be an ex-tenant of the 46-year-old woman. The tenant had moved out from her unit earlier this year, causing the 46-year-old woman to be disgruntled.
The 46-year-old woman will be charged in Court on 16 November 2017 for an offence of Mischief by Fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Any person found guilty of committing the offence shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend 7 years, and also be liable to fine.
