The Police have arrested two women, aged 25 and 42, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 16 November 2017, the Police were informed that the door of a HDB unit along Bedok North Street 2 was set on fire. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMS), officers from Bedok Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspects and arrested them along Stirling Road. 

 

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 18 November 2017 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
