The private security industry plays a very important role in the safety and security of Singapore. To ensure that industry practitioners maintain a high standard of security services, the Police Licensing & Regulatory Department (PLRD) of the Singapore Police Force has made it mandatory for licensed Security Agencies (SAs) to undergo an annual Grading Exercise since 2009. 

 

The objectives of the grading exercise are:

  • To motivate the SAs to raise their security and service standards, and

  • To educate security service buyers on the differentiated quality of services provided by the SAs.

     

    The SAs are assessed and scored based on criteria categorised under the following 3 pillars:

  • Pillar 1 – Operations

  • Pillar 2 – Training for operations

  • Pillar 3 – Employment and human resource practicesEach SA will be awarded a grade based on the outcome of the assessment:

The period of assessment for the Security Agencies Grading Exercise 2017 was from 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017. This year, 228 SAs participated in the exercise. The numberof participating SAs is the same as 2016.

 

The Grading Exercise this year showed an overall improvement in the grades obtained as compared to 2016. In particular, the number of security agencies which obtained grade ‘A’ increased from 60 to 84.
