The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of housebreaking.

On 4 December 2017 at about 12.30pm, Police received a report that someone had stretched his hand through a window of a residential unit in Simei, attempting to reach for things in the unit.

Through extensive ground enquiries and the aid of footages from Police Cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at about 3pm on the same afternoon along Simei Street 6.

The man will be charged in Court on 6 December 2017 with an offence of Housebreaking with the intention to commit theft under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and he shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are properly secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks;

  • Keep valuables and/or large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box;

  • Install a burglar alarm, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
