Between October and November 2017, the Police received several reports of cash cards being stolen from the in-vehicle units (IUs) of motorcycles parked at multi-storey carparks in Woodlands.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of footages from the Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 5 December 2017 along Woodlands Square. Cash cards which were found on him were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in Court on 7 December 2017 with the offence of Theft. Anyone convicted for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is liable for a jail term up to 3 years, or with fine, or both.

To prevent theft from vehicles, the Police would like to advise vehicle owners to adopt the following precautionary measures:

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  • Do not leave cash and valuables such as cash cards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle;

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while;

  • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas; and

  • Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and call ‘999’ for assistance. Do not confront them.
