The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of cheating.

Since March 2017, the Police received several reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by an online seller advertising the sale of Universal Studios Singapore (USS) E-tickets. After payments were made by the victims via bank transfers, the tickets were e-mailed to them but the victims were refused entry as the tickets were invalid. The suspect had used multiple bank accounts, carousel IDs and contact numbers to mask his actions.

Through extensive investigations, the Police managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 22 December 2017, officers from Clementi and Jurong Police Division arrested the suspect along Bukit Batok Street 32

The suspect will be charged in the Court on 23 December 2017 with the offence of Cheating.  Anyone found guilty of Cheating may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures to avoid falling prey to online purchase scams;

  1. Check the seller’s track record by reading reviews or contacting previous customers;

  2. Purchase tickets only from authorised sellers, and take note of the terms and conditions of the ticket sale;

  3. If advanced payments are required, use shopping platforms that provide arrangements to only release your payment to the seller upon your receipt of the item.
