The Police have arrested two men, aged 30 and 37, for their suspected involvement in loansharking harassment.

 

On 31 December 2017 at about 9:00am, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at Blk 154 Pasir Ris Street 13. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of footages from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Bedok Police Division arrested the suspects on 2 January 2018. The suspects are believed to have carried out several acts of harassment in Tampines and Simei housing estates. 

 

The 30-year-old suspect will be charged in Court on 4 January 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Investigations against the 37-year-old suspect are ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of committing loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to be punished with not less than three and not more than six strokes of the cane.
