The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

 

On 2 January 2018, the Police received a report from a victim who informed that he had been cheated by the suspect who claimed to be working for a telecommunications company and needed help to hit his sales quota. The suspect had earlier sought the victim’s assistance to sign up for a mobile phone line before requesting the victim to pass the new mobile phone to him. The suspect had allegedly assured the victim that the mobile phone line would be terminated within a month and no charges would be incurred by the victim. However, the victim received monthly telecommunication bills as the mobile phone line was not terminated as promised. The suspect became uncontactable after receiving the mobile phone.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect. and arrested him along Yishun Central on 12 January 2018. He is also believed to be involved in other similar cases. Several SIM cards and a mobile phone were recovered and seized.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 13 January 2018 with an offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
