The graduation parade for the 169th intake of Full-Time Police National Service Officers was held on 20th January 2018 (Saturday) at the Home Team Academy Unity Square. For the 563 graduating officers, the parade marked the conclusion of training at the Home Team Academy, which equipped them with basic policing skills and knowledge. Family and friends of the graduating officers were in attendance to witness this momentous occasion in the lives of these Singaporean sons.
Gracing the event as the Reviewing Officer was Mr Desmond Choo, Mayor, North East District and Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC. After inspecting the parade participants and congratulating them on their achievement, Mr Desmond spoke about the history of National Service and its important role in keeping Singapore safe and secure. The graduating officers were also reminded of their solemn duty as police officers, and the exacting standard of integrity required of them. The speech ended with Mr Desmond thanking the family members and friends present for supporting the officers in their service to the nation.
The parade continued with the presentation of awards to the best trainee from each of the 16 graduating squads. The graduating officers then recited the Police Pledge, reaffirming their loyalty to the Singapore Police Force and the Republic of Singapore, which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
The day’s events concluded with the guests and graduating officers enjoying a buffet reception. During the reception, the Reviewing Officer and guests were also invited to view the NS50 Exhibition panels depicting the history of Police National Service in Singapore. The guests mingled to share their experiences in training and took many photographs to commemorate this joyous occasion.
