The Police have arrested two men and two women aged between 19 and 45 for a series of mobile phone contract scam.

On 18 January 2018, the victim reported to the Police that he was told to sign up for mobile phone contracts with mobile phones and exchange the mobile phones for $100 each, after he responded to a job offer posted on Facebook which offered a pay of $600 per day. The suspects assured the victim that the mobile phone contract would be terminated immediately with no charges to be incurred by the victim. After handing over the mobile phone to the suspects, the victim was saddled with the mobile phone bills, as the suspects did not terminate the contract and could not be contacted.

Following the report, officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations to establish the identity of the suspects and arrested them on 24 January 2018 along Orchard Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that there are about 10 victims, who are believed to have been cheated by the suspects.

The 20-year-old female suspect will be charged in Court on 26 January 2018 with the offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, she will be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine. Investigations are ongoing against the other three suspects.
