The Police have arrested a 17-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 27 January 2018, the Police received a report about a case of loanshark harassment at Blk 154 Pasir Ris Street 13. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 28 January 2018 along Tampines Central. 

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 30 January 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of committing loanshark harassment shall be punished with an imprisonment term not exceeding five years, a fine that is not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to not less than three and not more than 6 strokes of the cane.
