The Police Coast Guard (PCG) has arrested eleven men, aged between 23 and 45, for their suspected involvement in an illegal transaction of Marine Gas Oil (MGO).

On 19 January 2018, PCG received information that an unknown foreign registered vessel was believed to be involved in an illegal sale of 200 metric tons of MGO, which has an estimated market value of S$97,000.

Through follow up investigations, PCG officers traced and the foreign registered vessel at the sea off Bedok Jetty on 5 February 2018. Nine crew members were arrested for purchasing the stolen MGO. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of another two crew members of a Singapore registered tanker for misappropriating MGO on board without their company’s knowledge, and selling it to the crew of the foreign registered tugboat, which was seized for investigations.

The eleven men will be charged in Court on 7 February 2018 with the offence of Criminal Breach of Trust as Servant punishable under section 408 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
