The Police have arrested two men, aged 17 and 18, for their suspected involvement in loanshark harassment activities.

 

On 3 March 2018 at about 11.40pm, the Police were alerted to loanshark harassment case  at a unit at Blk 221B Bedok Central. The unit had been splashed with paint and its gate locked with a bicycle chain. Officers from Bedok Police Division responded to the incident and arrested the two suspects in the vicinity at 12.45am on 4 March 2018. The suspects are believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment in Tampines housing estate. 

 

Investigations against both suspects are ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of committing loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to be punished with not less than three and not more than six strokes of the cane.
