The Police have arrested a 29-year-old woman for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 3 March 2018, police received a report on loanshark harassment where bicycle locks were used to lock up a residential unit located at Ghim Moh Road. Through extensive ground enquiries and viewing of images from Police Cameras (PolCams) and CCTV footages, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested her at New Bridge Road on 8 March 2018 at about 1pm. 

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect could also be involved in carrying out acts of loanshark harassments in Clementi and Jurong West housing estates.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 10 March 2018 under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
