Enforcement Operations Against Massage Establishments, Public Entertainment Outlets, Vice And Public Gaming

The police have arrested 16 women and 5 men, aged between 21 and 67, in enforcement operations conducted against public entertainment outlets, massage establishment, vice and public gaming on 15 March 2018.

 

During the operations, Central Police Division conducted a series of enforcement checks on public entertainment outlets and massage establishments located along Temasek Boulevard, Jalan Besar, Syed Alwi Road and South Bridge Road. 11 women, aged between 21 and 30, were arrested for offences under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act. Actions will also be taken against the operators of public entertainment outlets for contravening licensing conditions, and operators of massage establishments for contravening licensing conditions, operating without valid licence and allowing vice activities within its premise.

 

Additionally, one man was arrested for managing a place of assignation in an anti-vice operation. Under the Woman’s Charter, any person who keeps, manages or assists in the management of a place of assignation shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years or to both and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or to both.

 

Five women, believed to have provided sexual services at a hotel and residential unit were also arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter. Landlords and hotel owners are advised to ensure that tenants do not carry out vice activities in their premises. Unlicensed brothel operators can be given a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or up to five years’ imprisonment. Any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person can be jailed up to five years and fined up to $10,000.

 

Four men were also arrested for public gaming. A total of $685 cash was seized. Under the Common Gaming House Act, any person gaming in any public place shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.

 

Investigations are ongoing.

 

The police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those who are involved in such illegal activities and they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
