The police have arrested four men aged between 19 and 20 for a series of mobile phone contract scam.

 

On 13 March 2018, the victim reported to the police that he was told to sign up for mobile phone contract with mobile phone and exchange the mobile phone for $300. The suspects assured the victim that the mobile phone contract would be terminated with no charges to be incurred by him. After handing over the mobile phone to the suspects, the victim was saddled with the mobile phone bills, as the suspects did not terminate the contract and was uncontactable.

 

Through extensive ground inquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the suspects and arrested them on 14 March 2018. Preliminary investigations revealed that there are about 10 victims, who are believed to have been cheated by the suspects.

 

Investigations are ongoing. Any person found guilty of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
