Man Arrested For Criminal Trespass And Assaulting A Member Of Parliament

The Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for criminal trespass and are also investigating him for voluntarily causing hurt to a Member of Parliament (MP).

On 16 April 2018 at 10.10pm, the man was at a Meet-the-People session at Blk 334 Clementi Avenue 2 where an MP for Jurong Group Representation Constituency, Dr Tan Wu Meng, was meeting his residents. The man had approached the MP and assaulted him.

The man will be charged in court on 18 April 2018.

Anyone convicted of criminal trespass under section 447 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 may be punished with imprisonment of up to 3 months, or a fine of up to $1,500 or both. Anyone convicted of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, may be punished with imprisonment of up to 2 years, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

The Police warn that threats, intimidation or violence against anyone, even more so against public servants or MPs performing their duties, will not be tolerated and offenders will be firmly dealt with.
