Fourteen Arrested In Enforcement Operation Against Vice And Public Gaming

Seven men and seven women, aged between 22 and 75, were arrested during an enforcement operation conducted by Central Police Division against vice and public gaming activities along Tiong Bahru Road, Tiong Poh Road and Kelantan Lane on 18 April 2018.

During the operation, three men and seven women, aged between 22 and 45, were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter. Preliminary investigations revealed that the women had allegedly advertised their sexual services online and had operated from residential units along Tiong Bahru Road and Tiong Poh Road. The three men are believed to be managing these women.

Additionally, four men, aged between 47 and 75, were arrested for public gaming along Kelantan Lane. A total of $912 cash was seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

Under the Women’s Charter, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000.

Under the Common Gaming House Act, any person gaming in any public place shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both. Any person who instigates, promotes or intentionally facilitates public gaming shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $20,000 and not more than $200,000, and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

The Police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those who are involved in such illegal activities and they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
