The Police have arrested a 56-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire.
On 13 May 2018, the Police received a report that some clothing in a changing room at a store inside Causeway Point were on fire. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and subsequently arrested him along Marsiling Drive. Preliminary investigation revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of mischief by fire, as well as a case of shop theft.
The man will be charged in court on 15 May 2018. Anyone convicted for mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is liable for a jail term up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to fine. Anyone convicted for shop theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is liable for a jail term up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
