The Police are investigating a 25-year-old man for lodging a false report.

On 8 May 2018 at about 10.40 pm, the man lodged a report alleging that his motorcycle was stolen after he parked it at the car park of Block 5 Lorong 7 Toa Payoh.

In the course of investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division detected many inconsistencies in the man’s account and established that he had provided false information by claiming he was a victim of motorcycle theft.

Investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
