The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 2 May 2018, the police received a report that loanshark-related graffiti was scribbled on the walls and red paint was also splashed on the door of a residential unit along Bedok North Road. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the 22-year-old man and arrested him along Chai Chee Ave on 30 May 2018. One handphone was seized. The man is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment in Hougang and Punggol housing estates.

The man will be charged in court on 1 June 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
