The Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman who is believed to be involved in a series of cheating cases.

Between 3 and 31 May 2018, the Police received reports from several victims, informing that they had been contacted by a woman who offered to sell airline tickets at a discounted price. The victims were then directed to make deposits ranging from $1,400 to $16,000 purportedly for the purchase of airline tickets. After collecting the deposits, the woman became uncontactable.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 6 June 2018.

The woman will be charged in court on 7 June 2018 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone found guilty for the offence of cheating may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Members of the public are advised to be cautious when dealing with an unknown person and to purchase airline tickets from an accredited travel agent.
