The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 11 May 2018, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where the gate of a residential unit along Shun Fu Road was locked with a bicycle lock. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, the identity of the duo we’re established and they were arrested along Marine Terrace. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are believed to be is involved in at least eight other loanshark harassment cases island wide. Police investigations are ongoing.

The man and woman will be charged in court on 16 June 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
