The Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of motor vehicle theft and cheating along Orchard Road.

On 15 June 2018 at 5.51 am, the Police were alerted to a case of a car stolen from a carpark along Orchard Road. The car owner also reported that her credit cards that were left in the vehicle had been misused. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at 8.55 am on the same day. 

The man will be charged in court on 16 June 2018 with theft of motor vehicle punishable under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum jail term of seven years’ imprisonment and shall also be liable to a fine. Under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, anyone found guilty for the offence of cheating may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;
  • Remove cash-cards and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones before leaving the vehicle and
  • Wind up all windows and lock all doors of the vehicle, even if it is intended to be left unattended for a short while.
