The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of housebreaking cases at the vicinity of Recreation Road.

 

On 26 June 2018 at about 10.20am, the Police received a report informing that a safe containing valuables had been stolen from a unit along Recreation Road.

  

Through follow up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 27 June 2018. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also believed to be involved in other similar cases.

 

The man will be charged in the court on 29 June 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night. Anyone convicted for the offence of housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is liable for a jail term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine. 

 

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures: 

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving the house;
  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
  • Keep large sums of cash in the banks, with minimal sum of money left behind in commercial premises at night.
