The Police have arrested three male teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, for their suspected involvement in a series of shop theft cases.
Since May 2018, the Police received several reports that apparels had been stolen from shops in shopping malls island wide.
Officers from Clementi Police Division conducted ground enquiries and established the identities of the teenagers and subsequently arrested them on 28 June 2018. Apparels valued at more than $3000 were seized as exhibit.
Investigations against the teenagers are ongoing. Anyone convicted for theft in dwelling with common intention under Section 380 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 can be jailed for up to 7 years and fined.
The Police would also like to remind retailers to adopt the following precautionary measures:
a) Display advisory posters or signage against shop theft at prominent locations;
b) Safeguard items in locked display cabinets should there be no security tagging;
c) Install CCTVs and an anti-theft alarm system; and
d) Observe and look out for suspicious characters in the shop.
