12 men and one woman, aged between 22 and 48, will be charged in court on 9 July 2018 with various offences such as intentional harassment and unlawful assembly while carrying out their roles as debt collectors recovering debts from debtors.

Anyone convicted for the offence of intentional harassment, under Section 3(2) of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A, is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both. Any person found guilty of being in an unlawful assembly under Section 143 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or to both.

The Police would like to highlight that debt collectors who use egregious and aggressive tactics which flout the law will be taken to task accordingly.
