The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases involving car rental scams.

Between March and June 2018, the Police received multiple reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by a man who advertised on Carousell that he had cars for rent. The man went uncontactable after receiving deposits from the victims.

Through investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Yishun Avenue 6 on 17 July 2018.   The man is believed to have cheated at least 12 victims of over $3000.

The man will be charged in court on 19 July 2018 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
