Man To Be Charged For Involvement In Gang-Related Activities And Voluntarily Causing Hurt

A 17-year-old man will be charged in court on 24 July 2018 for his suspected involvement in gang-related activities and voluntarily causing hurt to an 18-year-old man.

The 17-year-old suspect is believed to have punched the 18-year-old victim repeatedly during a gang-related confrontation on 7 February 2018 at a shopping centre located along Beach Road. Further investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be a member of an unlawful society.

Under Section 14(3) of the Societies Act, Chapter 311, anyone found guilty of being or acting as a member of an unlawful society shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to three years or both. Under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, anyone found guilty of voluntarily causing hurt shall be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

The Police takes a very stern view against gang-related activities, and will not hesitate to take action against those who choose to be associated with gangs or blatantly disregard the law.
