A 21-year-old man will be charged on 29 August 2018 for voluntarily causing hurt to a public service provider.
On 25 June 2018 at 7.50pm, the Police were informed that a 69-year-old SMRT service ambassador had been assaulted by a man at Raffles Place MRT station. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV images, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the SMRT service ambassador who was performing crowd control duties at the platform of Raffles Place MRT station, had advised the man who was eating within the MRT station premises from doing so. The man did not comply with the advice and started to drink from his bottle. When the SMRT service ambassador advised him again, he assaulted the SMRT service ambassador before fleeing.
Anyone found guilty for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.
