The Police launched the Smart Clubbing Campaign (SCC) at Zouk, Clarke Quay on Wednesday, 5 September 2018 at 5.30pm. The event was graced by Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development, and supported by the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) and major public entertainment (PE) outlets in Clarke Quay, Orchard Road, Marina Bay and Sentosa.

Smart Clubbing Campaign

In the first half of 2018, outrage of modesty cases at PE outlets increased by 37% compared to the same period last year.  Theft and violent crimes such as rioting, affray and serious hurt also remain of concern, as they tend to occur at or in the vicinity of night spots.

The SCC aims to promote smart and safe clubbing behaviours, to reduce crimes such as outrage of modesty, theft and fights that are commonly associated with the nightlife entertainment scene.

The launch of the year-long campaign will highlight various initiatives and close collaboration between the PE outlets and the Police in providing a safe clubbing environment for all. The campaign also encourages PE outlets to innovate and implement crime prevention initiatives at their premises.

For example, the PE outlets designed posters to educate patrons to be “Smart Clubbers” by taking personal responsibility to protect themselves from the common crimes which tend to happen at nightspots. These digital artworks will be flashed periodically on the electronic mediums (e.g. TVs) in the clubs. Printed posters will also be displayed at locations such as entrances of clubs.

Smart Clubbing Video

At the event, a ‘Smart Clubbing’ video was also unveiled. The video features local artiste Miss Irene Ang who is portrayed as a ‘smart clubber’ who takes measures to protect herself from outrage of modesty, theft and fights.

Other Crime Prevention Measures

Prior to this launch, the Police had also engaged the PE outlets to implement the following crime prevention measures at strategic locations such as the clubs’ entrances and restrooms:

  • Install Crime Alert Message Boards (CAMB); and
  • Put up crime prevention posters / stickers

The Police will continue to work with the PE outlets to ensure a safe and secure clubbing environment.
