The Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 5 May 2018 at about 2.46 pm, the Police received a report that a residential unit located along Lorong 34 Geylang had been broken into. Items such as a camera, camera bag and camera lenses worth more than $1000 were reportedly stolen. A credit card and three bunches of keys were also reported missing.

Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, the identity of the man was established.  He was subsequently arrested along Lorong 32 Geylang on 10 May 2018.

The man will be charged in court on 11 May 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
