The Police have arrested a 14-year-old male teenager for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.
On 1 October 2018 at about 4.00pm, the Police received a report that a coffeeshop along Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 had been broken into and several cartons of cigarettes and cash amounting to $1700 were stolen.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 on 1 October 2018 at about 8.00pm.
The suspect will be charged in court on 3 October 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years with caning.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in unattended premises;
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
