Following a series of enforcement operations and investigations by Central Police Division against liquor and public entertainment outlets along Short Street, Rowell Road, Dunlop Street, Desker Road, North Bridge Road, North Canal Road, and Serangoon Road between July 2017 and July 2018, eight operators will be charged in court on 8 October 2018 under the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act and Public Entertainments Act.
Liquor Outlets
Four liquor outlet operators who are operating within the Liquor Control Zone at Little India will be charged with offences under the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act, such as the supply of liquor beyond the specified trading hours and supply of liquor outside the licensed premises.
If convicted, the operators shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000 for each offence.
One of the four operators will also be charged with supplying liquor without a liquor license. As the infringements had been detected within the Liquor Control Zone, the operator is also liable to enhanced punishment under the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act.[2]
Public Entertainment Outlets
Three licensees and one private limited company will be charged with offences under the Public Entertainments Act, such as the provision of public entertainment without a valid license, failure to take all appropriate steps to ensure sale, consumption or trafficking of controlled drugs are not committed by any person in the licensed premises, failure to ensure no overcrowding, and employment of foreigner in the licensed premises without any valid work permit.
Under the Public Entertainments Act, any person who provides or assists in providing any public entertainment without a license or while the license is suspended shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $20,000 for each offence. Anyone who provides or assists in providing any public entertainment in contravention of any condition of a license or in contravention of the Act shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000 for each offence.
The Police takes a serious view of anyone found breaking the law and will continue to take tough enforcement stance against such activities
