The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking by night along Tiong Poh Road.

On 1 October 2018 at about 3.40am, the Police received a report that a residential unit along Tiong Poh Road had been broken into. The suspect fled without taking any valuables after the house occupant confronted him.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 8 October 2018.

The man will be charged in court on 10 October 2018 with housebreaking by night with intent to commit theft punishable under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he is liable to imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables at home.
