Central Police Division, with the support of Central Narcotics Bureau, arrested 53 people in a three-day operation conducted from 12 to 14 October 2018. The enforcement operation was conducted along Banda Street, Jalan Bukit Merah, Telok Blangah Crescent, King George Ave, Syed Alwi Road, Merchant Road, Bencoolen Street, Rowell Road and North Bridge Road. The 47 men and six women, aged between 20 and 79, were arrested for various offences. 

26 men and one woman were arrested for gambling-related offences along King George Ave, Banda Street, Telok Blangah Crescent and Jalan Bukit Merah. Cash amounting to $3,567 were seized.


12 men were arrested for vice and immigration–related offences along Rowell Road. 


Four women were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter along Syed Alwi Road and Merchant Road. They are believed to have advertised sexual services online and carried out vice activities at  hotels and rented apartments


Nine men and one woman were arrested for suspected drug-related offences along North Bridge Road. About 235 grams of drugs were seized.


Investigations are ongoing.


Under the Common Gaming House Act, any person gaming in any public shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.


Landlords and hotel owners are advised to ensure that tenants and customers do not carry out vice activities in their premises. Unlicensed brothel operators can be given a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or up to five years’ imprisonment. Any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person can be jailed up to five years and fined up to $10,000.


Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, any person found guilty of trafficking in a Class A controlled drug shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a minimum term of 5 years and 5 strokes of the cane.


The authorities will continue to clamp down on criminal activities. Those found engaging in illicit activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance to the law.
