The Police have arrested a 49-year-old man on 12 September 2018 for his suspected involvement in a case of dangerous driving.
On 11 September 2018, the Traffic Police (TP) was alerted to a video of a car driving dangerously along Lorong Chuan. Preliminary investigations by TP revealed that on 7 September 2018 at about 1.05pm, the man had mounted the kerb of a centre divider before travelling against the flow of traffic. He then sped up to intercept a lorry, which was travelling in front of him. No injuries were reported.
The man will be charged in court with dangerous driving on 17 October 2018. Under Section 64(1) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 276, motorists caught for dangerous driving, upon conviction, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both; and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both. In addition, their driving license may be disqualified.
Driving against the flow of traffic is dangerous and could result in serious or fatal traffic accidents. All motorists are urged to drive safely and strictly abide to traffic rules and regulations. The Traffic Police will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who choose to endanger the safety of other road users.
