Man Arrested For Making False Threat To Cause Alarm At Clarke Quay Mrt Station

The Police have arrested a 58-year-old man for making false threat to cause alarm at Clarke Quay MRT Station. 

On 16 September 2017 at about 5pm, the Police were alerted to a case of an unattended bag with a grey grenade-shaped object attached to the side of the bag at Clarke Quay MRT station. Through ground enquiries, officers from Central Police Division and Public Transport Security Command established the identity of the man who is believed to have intentionally left the bag at the station and subsequently arrested him on 17 September 2017.

The man will be charged in court on 24 October 2018 under Regulation 8(2)(a) of the United Nations (Anti-Terrorism Measures) Regulations, read with Section 5(1)(a) of the United Nations Act Chapter 339. Anyone convicted under the Regulations, may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, or with a fine not exceeding $500,000, or with both.
