The Police have arrested a 44-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment.

On 28 October 2018, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where a residential unit along Bedok South Road was splashed with paint and a debtor’s note was found on the gate. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok and Jurong Police Divisions established the identity of the man and arrested him on 1 November 2018. Nine pieces of gloves, twelve cans of paint and three markers were seized as case exhibits. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment at Bukit Batok, Jurong West and Boon Lay.

The man will be charged in court on 3 November 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
