Large crowds are expected in Little India for the Deepavali celebrations, especially on the eve of Deepavali on 5 November 2018.
Heavy vehicular traffic is expected along Serangoon road during this period. The following roads will also be closed during the stipulated periods:

During the closure, access will only be granted to police and emergency vehicles. Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced. Vehicles found parking and causing obstruction will be towed. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected roads and make alternative travel arrangements.
The Police would like to advise the public to remain vigilant against crime by adopting the following measures:
- Do not leave your belongings unattended
- Avoid wearing excessive jewellery and carrying large amounts of cash
- Keep your bags close to you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped
- Stay close to your friends and lookout for each other’s safety when in crowded places
- Be alert to your surroundings. When possible, move away if someone stands or sits exceptionally close to you
- If you are molested, seek help immediately from passers-by to increase the chances of apprehending the culprit. Call ‘999’ as soon as possible.
The Police take a serious view of anyone who sets off improvised explosive devices constructed using sparklers. Such acts and devices are potential fire hazards which cause undue danger and alarm to the public. Anyone caught setting off improvised explosive devices is liable to an offence of negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances under Section 286 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, punishable by imprisonment of one year or fine up to $5,000. Should the act lead to any hurt caused, one may be liable to prosecution for voluntarily causing hurt with heated or explosive substances under Section 324 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the offender will be liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments.
