The Police have arrested four men, aged between 18 and 54, for their suspected involvement in three separate cases of discharge of dangerous fireworks on 6 November 2018.
In the first case, at about 3.30am, the Police were alerted to loud sounds, believed to have originated from the discharge of fireworks, at an open field in front of Block 513A Yishun Street 51. Cylinders containing explosive materials that are believed to have set off the fireworks were also found at the said location. Through ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department established the identity of the 28-year-old man and arrested him on 7 November 2018.
In the second case, at about 7.40pm, the Police were alerted to loud sounds, believed to have originated from the discharge of fireworks, at the void deck of Block 194B Bukit Batok West Avenue 6. A box containing explosive materials were also found at the said location. Officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the two men, aged 18 and 54, and arrested them on 6 November 2018.
The third case was reported at about 9.55pm, where Police were alerted to loud sounds, believed to have originated from the discharge of fireworks, at the void deck of Block 18 Joo Seng Road. A bundle of tubes containing explosive materials were found at the said location. Through investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the 25-year-old man and arrested him on 8 November 2018.
The four men will be charged in court on 9 November 2018 with discharge of dangerous fireworks under Section 3(1)(b) of the Dangerous Fireworks Act, Chapter 72. Anyone convicted of the offence shall be liable to a fine of not less than $2000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both.
Members of the public are reminded that it is an offence to possess, sell, transport, send, deliver, distribute or import any dangerous fireworks. The Police have zero tolerance against acts that endanger the lives or safety of others as well as cause undue alarm to the public, and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
