The Traffic Police (TP) and Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) organised the finals of the 38th Shell Traffic Games on Friday, 9 November 2018 at the Road Safety Community Park. The event was supported by Shell Companies in Singapore, Ministry of Education (MOE), ITE College West, Shimano, Bukit Batok Driving Centre, ComfortDelGro Driving Centre, Singapore Safety Driving Centre, General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA), National Parks, Nanyang Polytechnic School of Interactive & Digital Media and National Police Cadet Corps. Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development, was the guest of honour.

The 38th Shell Traffic Games is an inter-school event where primary school children take part in hands-on activities and training sessions, to educate them on road safety.

After the preliminary rounds of the games held between January to September 2018, 24 primary school teams with the highest scores were selected to participate in the semi-finals. 12 schools made it to the finals to compete for the Shell Challenge Trophy. Yumin Primary School emerged as the champion of the 38th Shell Traffic Games.

Three new educational animation videos on road safety for children were also unveiled at the event. A joint initiative led by SRSC, and supported by TP and Shell, these videos produced by Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Interactive & Digital Media contain important road safety advisories, such as the dangers of playing near the roadside, of crossing the road at bends and the importance of wearing seatbelts.

The videos will be available on the SRSC website and Facebook page, and will also be used as educational tools during road safety talks.

Ensuring safer roads is a collective effort. It is important to start early by inculcating good RoadSense in children. All road users can also do their part in educating our young road users by being good role models and practising good RoadSense.
