Man Arrested For Rash Act Of Endangering A Police Officer's Life And For Drug Trafficking

The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who is believed to have committed a rash act endangering the life of a police officer and for suspected drug trafficking.

On 12 November 2018 at about 2.50pm, a Traffic Police officer stopped a car along Geylang Road to conduct an enforcement check after the suspect was spotted using his mobile phone while driving. During the check, the suspect drove off suddenly and the officer was dragged along for about 50 metres, before falling onto the road.

The Traffic Police officer sustained multiple abrasions, and a fracture to his right ankle, and was conveyed to the hospital for treatment.

The Police located the car which the suspect had abandoned at a car park along Toa Payoh Lorong 4 at about 5.10pm on the same day.

Through a joint operation between Bedok Police Division and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), the suspect was arrested along Jalan Loyang Besar at 2.15am on 13 November 2018. Suspected drugs and drug-related paraphernalia found in his possession were seized by the CNB.

The man will be charged in court on 14 November 2018 with drug trafficking under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Police investigations into the case of rash act endangering the life of the Traffic Police officer are ongoing.  The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts which threaten the safety of our officers and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.

The Police would also like to thank the members of the public who had stepped forward to provide assistance to the injured Traffic Police officer.
