The Police Community Roadshow 2018 was launched this morning (24 November 2018) by Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mrs Josephine Teo, at the Toa Payoh HDB Hub Atrium. This is the first of three community roadshows that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) is holding in the heartlands.
To foster greater awareness of policing work and build stronger ties with the public, the SPF will be holding three Police community roadshows at Toa Payoh, Bedok and Jurong East over three consecutive weekends, starting on 24 November 2018 and ending on 9 December 2018 (refer to Annex A).
Visitors to the roadshows can view a showcase of the latest technologies and equipment used by the SPF, including the Police drone, robots and weapons. They can also experience a mock-up crime scene and observe the investigative work by Police officers. In addition, visitors will get to view various demonstrations featuring officers from different Police units, and performances by the SPF band and the Police K-9 unit.
At the launch, Minister Josephine Teo also presented certificates of appointment to 17 ambassadors for ‘Elderly Citizens Helping Others Against Scams’ (E.C.H.O. Against Scams). E.C.H.O Against Scams, an initiative by the Toa Payoh Neighbourhood Police Centre, aims to reach out to the elderly population in the neighbourhood, to help them guard against falling victim to scams. These ambassadors, who are senior citizens themselves, will share crime prevention advice with their fellow residents.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Devrajan Bala, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Police Community Roadshow 2018, said: “The SPF has been investing in various crime-fighting capabilities even as we continue to strengthen our partnerships with the community to safeguard Singapore. Through this series of roadshows in the heartlands, we aim to raise public awareness on policing work, and work with the community to make Singapore one of the safest cities in the world.
