Police Community Roadshow 2018 At Bedok Town Square Featuring Launch Of Young Police Buddy

Young Police Buddy (YPB) was launched this afternoon (1 December 2018) by Member of Parliament for East Coast Group Representative Constituency, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, together with representatives from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Ministry of Education (MOE), at the Police Community Roadshow 2018 at Bedok Town Square. This is the second of three community roadshows that the SPF is holding in the heartlands (refer to Annex A).

An initiative by Bedok Police Division, YPB aims to raise crime awareness amongst primary school students. Through completing the list of activities on the YPB activity card, students will learn how to stay away from crimes as well as understand the different aspects of policing work. They will also be able to showcase their creativity through activities like the design of crime prevention posters and board games.

YPB has been rolled out in nine primary schools under the jurisdiction of Bedok Police Division since October 2018.[1] The SPF will be working with MOE to explore the introduction of YCB to other primary schools island wide.

Deputy Commander of Bedok Police Division, Superintendent of Police Jerald Tan said: “Young Police Buddy aims to instill awareness of crime in our students from a young age. By participating in hands-on activities, the primary school students can learn about crime prevention and the consequences of committing crimes. In turn, they can also share the knowledge with their friends in school.”

The SPF will be holding the last community roadshow at the open field next to Westgate on 8 and 9 December 2018. For more information on the Police Community Roadshow 2018, members of the public can visit www.police.gov.sg/roadshow.
