The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 4 January 2019 at about 7.30pm, the Police received a report that a public entertainment outlet along Selegie Road had been broken into. The premise was ransacked and cash amounting to $187,700/- were reported stolen.

Through ground enquiries and investigation, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the suspect. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had fled from Singapore to Malaysia before the police report was lodged.

With the assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), the suspect was arrested in Malaysia on 10 January 2019 pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the State Courts Singapore. The suspect was subsequently handed over to Singapore on 11 January 2019.

The suspect will be charged in court on 12 January 2019 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chong Zunjie said: “The Singapore Police Force (SPF) would like to thank the RMP for their strong and unequivocal support for this case. The arrest of the suspect would not have been possible without the close collaboration and strong relationship between the SPF and RMP. The SPF will spare no efforts to hunt down criminals who commit serious crimes in Singapore and flee our borders thereafter. We will work with our foreign law enforcement partners to bring these fugitives to justice.”
