The Police have arrested a 56-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire.

On 10 January 2019 at about 1.15pm, the Police received a report regarding a man who allegedly set fire to a piece of canvas sheet outside a shop along Jurong West Street 41.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Yung Sheng Road, within two hours of the report lodged. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have used a cigarette lighter to set the fire.

The man will be charged in court on 12 January 2019 with mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which is punishable on conviction with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
